Enter a world of mind-blowing illusions and electrifying music with the world’s best magical artists – Quick Change Artists David & Dania, Comedian Magicians Les Arnold & Dazzle, and Magician and Illusionist Joseph Gabriel, voted “Best Stage Magician” at the 2009 World Magic Awards. After the world premiere, Indianapolis Performing Arts Examiner raved, “Mysterioso is madcap musical entertainment at its best!”
LOCAL NEEDS
To be provided by the Local Producing Orchestra
- We will need one seat for each performance for our vocalist, Christina Bianco. She begins each concert from the house. The seat must be relatively close to the stage (but not too close) and near an aisle, but not on the aisle. Basically, it can’t be too obvious that we’ve planted her in the audience. We will need stairs from the stage to the house for her entrance.
- Joseph Gabriel’s act heavily features birds. Please note that he will transport and care for his own birds, but that he will be storing the birds in his dressing in your facility.
- Les Arnold’s act features ducks. Due to the difficult nature of transporting ducks, we will need the local producing orchestra to procure two (2) white male Pekin ducks that are the same size (must be approximately 20” tall and weigh no more than 7 pounds) and look alike (their bills should even match). These ducks must be male, as male ducks do not quack. Orchestra will also need to provide a cage or crate large enough to contain both ducks. The SPC will take responsibility for caring for the ducks.
- Banners: We have five to ten banners (ranging around 10’ tall x 7’ wide; they are all different sizes) that we’ll need to try to hang onstage. We will also need as many lighting instruments, hung from front of house. (See page 16)
- A rhythm section - wrapped around brass section 1) synthesizer, 2) solo rhythm bass (acoustic bass & electric fender bass guitar) (the synthesizer is used for all keyboard sounds)
- Roundtrip shipment of music, costumes, minimal sound gear, and prop boxes. SPC staff will supply packing labels, with values of contents. The cost of the shipment, and insurance for these packages, is the responsibility of the local orchestra.
- One wardrobe dresser is needed for each performance, starting 1 1/2 hours prior to curtain.
- Concert values for insurance:
Props: $30,000.00
Music: $3000.00 (replacement cost, not creation cost) - Please see stage layout for orchestra set up details.
- At least one entrance from the house is needed. The stairs do not need railings, unless required by your local laws.
- 2 mic stands: one for wireless handheld mic (to be set SL of podium with spare mic) and one positioned in orchestra, just upstage if the basses (vocalist sings from this position during the concert)
Stage Layout:- See the schematic for details – especially concerning orchestra set up.
- 12’ of down stage space is needed for the Illusionists. No special floor treatments (marley, etc) are needed
Cast Needs:
- Four dressing rooms plus 1 for the conductor are requested. Dressing rooms will be discussed (knowing that some halls do not have large facilities) with tech personnel. Final dressing room assignments will be determined on-site.
- A quick change booth will be needed on stage right. It will need a clothes rack, mirror, music stand for jewelry, running lights, and three chairs.
- An iron, ironing board, and steamer are needed at all venues. One wardrobe person is needed 1 1/2 hours prior to curtain. A minimum of twelve 1 liter bottles of water are needed for each rehearsal and performance. Towels are always appreciated.
- Because of the nature of the performances, and in order for Illusionists to respect and comply with the “secret” nature of magical effects and illusions and the magic professional organizations to which they may belong and their respective “code of ethics”, theater personnel, representatives, technicians, staff and associated persons, may be asked to acknowledge and sign a confidentiality agreement to insure the protection of the modus operandi and secrets of the magical illusions. It is also understood that at some moments during load-in, set-up, rehearsal, tear-down, and load-out, ARTIST(s) may require privacy onstage or backstage in order to perform their required functions and protect the secrets of the magical effects and/or illusions.
